I just got home from Kairos. I cannot tell you how happy I am to be home. Please never let me go through that again.
The vocalist from the Animal Collective sounds like Connor Oberst.

Me: By the way, your Kairos letter is written.
Kiley: Yay!
Kiley: Your letter will be a piece of velveta cheese...
Me: Why
Kiley: and you will love it!
Update: the neighbors came and got the cat. Her name is Lila.
I usually go to bed at 11:30 and get up before 6, except on weekends. Last night, though, I went to bed at 11:30 after going out with Eddo. Then I woke up at 5:30 and threw up.
And then I woke up again later and did the same, and when I decided to get up for good, I did once more.
I think I ate something weird at the taco place yesterday. I just woke up from a 3-hour nap in front of the TV.
Spending time with my mom: watching a PBS documentary about the history of American comedy, “Make Me Laugh,” after working on my translation of Daedalus and Icarus in front of her Keith Olbermann. Dad’s off doing something tonight, so it’s “just us chickens,” as it’s said.
Also: got some “light” chocolate soy milk. Wow! Fantastically...
I was the cynic, a stalwart non-believer, and yet still a liberal. I did not wear an Obama pin until he was elected. I was on the Hillary mailing list. But the inaugural speech today (see post below this) actually inspired me.
Something about it has me wanting to do more. Should I reconsider joining AmeriCorps?
Maybe my summer job should be a little more out there, a little closer to what I...

Explaining why Indie’s off the air. And why there’s no DJ on the online station.
On school, entrapment in general: I NEED TO GET OUT!
Cranberry juice and Ovid. Mm.
There is a line. So we know where to cross.

I am simultaneously teaching one friend how to use Coulomb’s law and another how to implement in-line PHP and includes, both over AIM.
I need a job
I wonder, do these places employ people straight out of high school with no job experience? (Hah.)
Apple store—because I’m good at explaining things to people and I’m good with computers too.
Sephora—my first love was makeup.
Vroman’s—I spend a lot of time there and I read non-typical books for a teenager.
I’m probably going to lower my standards. I just don’t...
I did all my homework yesterday, and now I have nothing to do. Today, the rare 3rd weekend day, is useless if everyone else is just going to be doing homework.
At least Indie is playing Bjork.
Eddo and Jer finally qualified for the end-of-the-season huge debate competition in Kentucky. They’ve been in Vegas all weekend, debating… or something.

Long weekend adventures
On Friday, I got lots of sleep after watching What Not to Wear with my mom. I also did a bit of internet tampering. I moved my Tumblelog (what you see here) back to HollyerThanThou.com and made a cool little page for HuntHolly.com as more of a portal. I was bored, OK?
When that was complete, on Saturday morning (no, HuntHolly.com does not seem to have propagated yet), I got ready and picked up...
Sometimes I feel like a skeeze. A really pretty skeeze. (I think I’m kidding…)
College living
This is definitely preparation. Ever since the 5 bachelors (and one of their girlfriends) moved in next door, I hear heavy metal bass, drums, and guitars practicing at odd hours of the day. Occasionally the whole band will be there, 2 floors below me, rehearsing.
Last night I drifted off to sleep at 10:30, but just over an hour later I heard laughter (the girlfriend’s), and 6 voices booming...
Das Pix
I left Flickr for Picasa. Picasa is sane, easily manipulated, and not artsy—perfect!
Being me, though, I’m liable to switch back and forth indeterminately. But for now, I think that Picasa has the type of storage and organization (and none of the “social” elements; isn’t that what Facebook is for?) that I like.
Thoughts on the NRDC
So here I am, casually checking my gmail, when I open a message from Roots of Change (an organization that sponsors developments in sustainable agriculture by giving grants) that the Natural Resources Defense Council (a serious, intellectual environmental legal and lobbying group) is sponsoring some sort of challenge to improve the implementation and propagation of sustainable food. One that...
"Indie, I wuv youuu"
This was on the Indie website and was being played verbatim on the airwaves between every song. I thought it was a joke at first.
BYE INDIE, HELLO DIGITAL INDIE !! This is an important message for the Indie 103.1 Radio Audience - Indie 103.1 will cease broadcasting over this frequency effective immediately. Because of changes in the radio industry and the way radio audiences are measured,...
DON’T GO, INDIE 103.1! STAY! PLEASE!
Report: done! Now to hook flickr up to tumblr. Ai.
Huge lab report. EEK. But my rearranged room is soothing!
Egg drop
Due at midnight is a brilliantly crafted laboratory report on the egg drop experiment we did at school. My contraption failed, but kept the egg inside it, for 6/10 points for the design. There is a 10-point report, also, and if I get 10/10 on this part (never going to happen), plus an extra +3 points for best explanation of a physics principle, I might just get the 19 points total out of 20 that I...
I would like to wrap your hair around your neck like a noose
– Big Black (via notkelsey). Idea taken from some poem I read in English earlier this year.
Efficiency
… is my middle name. Got lots of work done, but not physics lab because it’s easier to ignore that blot of failure.
Plenty o’ relaxing tho.
I am in love.
Holy indecision
Thanks to my early, ill-prepared attempts at writing the University of California application essays, I now have an appropriately long speech for the academic decathlon competition on Feb. 7!
It’s an essay that panders to the mystique of Los Angeles. I felt greasy writing it, but I’ll just feel smart reading it aloud.
I think because I take competition so seriously, I tune out...

You’d have to read all of The Omnivore’s Dilemma to understand how revolutionary this innocuous-looking company is.
New layout
Instead of getting a life or doing homework, I implemented a nice layout that I found somewhere on the internet, and did a smidge of light modding to it.
However, I lied when I said I didn’t get a life or do homework. In fact, I had a great weekend (and reinforced my understanding of what an amazing and supportive person Eddo is) and got everything but some AP U.S. Government homework...
A stressful week
In summary, there have been 2 losses, 1 near loss, now diagnosed as leukemia, and another near, possibly soon, loss.
But in opposition, today was the fun adventure bonding that we all needed. Eddo and I ventured on public and private transportation through approximately 4 or 5 cities over the span of many uncounted but collectively blissful and relaxing hours.
It’s ok, and I’m very...
