How many versions of the Bible do we really need? →

Of course, the answer to that question would be one (1), preferably in an archival library in some obscure location known only to scholars. But, alas, at least 200 English translations of the Christian Bible have been published just since 1900 — many of them revisions of earlier translations, each of which has been declared to be “the inspired ‘Word of God’.”
